Hi,
Any people know the MOT regs on exhaust locations?

I have made my own exhaust manifold (flywheel mounted turbo), problem is there is no room at the back of engine to route exhaust downpipe.
I have the option of routing the downpipe over the brace bars and mounting a small bike can vertically to the inner wing, heat shielded from the panel, and having a side exit exhaust infont of the back wheel (as per westfield etc)

Just need to know if it will pass MOT?

Cheers
Chris

I cant see why not, mine exit just after the rear wheel on each side on the estate, and had no problems with the mot..

As long as its not hanging out too far that is.

The link pipe from the turbo comes to a "Y" piece and then splits to behind either wheel.

I think that the exhaust needs to exit the car behind the driver, can any one confirm this?

n/s or o/s is ok as long as the pipe is in line with the body and not sticking out to far

It has to be behind the driver .... seen a couple of kit cars that have failed SVA as the tester has judge a side pipe to not be "suficiently aft of the driving position". This is obviously to prevent you getting a little dizzy (or dead) in a traffic jam etc.

Somebody else suggeseted the same thing a while ago and I asked a MOT tester friend who said he would void the test the moment he spotted an exhaust in that position, even if the windows are all fixed closed!

Not sure how much joy you'd get arguing the point but might get away with it.

Surely there must be room .. plenty of over clutch turbos out there!!!!
