My minus has the mk1 style tunel for remote gear selector, when I purchased the car it was running an auto box, is it possible to cut a hole (as per mk3 tunel) and use a rod change assy or am i best cutting it out and taking a mould from a mk3 tunel and moulding my own to bond in?

You can get the rod change in, but you'll need to cut the hole out bigger so the alloy rod change housing can poke through, and making up a new mount as the old one bolts to the top of the later square tunnel, also fixing a gear lever gaiter down could be fun!....

I had thought of an early box but that was after having turbo hogster rebuild my 4 syncro rod change box.

You can do it, make a semi circle bracket following the tunnel radius that mounts to the alloy rod selector in the standard position with two cotton reels. A mk1 gaitor will fit no problem. I had this arrangement on my Sprint until recently with great success.
I seriously doubt it! |

is the tunel shallower than on a mk3 (later squarer) tunel, will the alloy rod selector then sit lower?

Yes but only 1/4 inch, nothing to worry about
I seriously doubt it! |

I think I've seen that bracket for sale somewhere. Possibly on Minimania. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:
Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem. |

i made my own bracket out of the metro one i had in the shed and 2 cotton reel shaped mounts , sits in there quite nice and not too low - my exhaust will scrape before it does |
