at the risk of sounding stupid, is the pre-engaged starter motor only suitable for use with verto/valeo clutch?

or can you use either?

just been reading the bill sollis book about preparing your mini for racing etc, and he mentions its best to pre-engaged starter so you can remove the end of the transfer casing cover for a bit more room. But he also mentions using non-verto clutch???

I am sure someone can answer this one pretty quick

Cheers!

You can change the ring gears if i remember correctly. Just get the correct ring gear for the starter.

Remember that pre-engaged are a fair bit more expensive and have the piggy back solenoid which gets in the way.

Winchester

non verto clutches have the flywheel as a separate part of the assembly this means that the flywheel can be made lighter on a pre verto clutch. which i guess is good for racing.
i use an inertia starter, i replaced it a couple of months ago and it cost ?25 i think pre engaged cost about ?80 if they need replacing
