probably a stupid question but cant you use coilovers from a different car? surely theres something out there that uses the same size ones, or similar?

Surely ones from a different car using 1.9" I/D springs with rose joint ends are just as expensive as the mini ones???

As long as the open/closed length of the dampers was something similar then should be OK although damping rates may not be as good as they could be for something light as a mini.

you'd be very lucky to find a car with coilovers in a scrappy. let alone ones that would be any good for a mini

I can't see an advantage running them over a correctly sprung rubber car. For ultimate weight saving they are needed to run a beam axel, but rubber springs are great (just make sure you replace old ones)

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

I prefer coil overs because I have a set of spring rates that I always use that combined with the rest of the geometry I use gives a super pointy car with just about zero understeer and a superb balance. Something that I have never got with rubber doughnuts.

For a pure road car though I'd not fit coilovers as they do stress the shell a little with 4 people and a boot full of stuff. You also don't need, or indeed want, a razor sharp car ... hunting for the scene of the accident!!!!

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...
