Sad to see the 14's go really!

Think the 14's are what made the car iconic

Don’t make me change my mind! I was really torn in swapping the wheels as it is what made the car different from the rest and I will miss that, but I need to improve the handling as it’s a real handful and the overall weight saving was a whopping 22kg.

no split rim super lightweight 14'' s out there with enough inset to handle well phil ?

Not in my Budget Robert. Plus I picked these 10’s up about 7 years ago at a good price so it was about time I used them.

I had a real nightmare removing the custom filler cap from the tank. This was probably last removed about 20 years ago, thankfully the slide hammer came to the rescue.
I’ve got an alloy fuel cell from Iain’s old Miglia that’s going in now instead.

So I’ve made some progress. Changed the 90’s style mirrors and got all the Miglia arches trimmed to fit properly. I also made all the brackets to mount them from stainless as the aftermarket ones I’d originally bought were crap. With all the trimming, making brackets, bonding them to the arches, trial fitting on and off the car it’s taken me the best part of a couple of weeks.
My target is to get it road legal by the end of the month. I’ve also been weighing bits as I’ve swopped them and with a whopping 57kg removed so far the car is just a little over 650kg now. I know that’s not light compared to some but my budget is tight and I’ve not gone mad. If I can get it under 650 I’ll be happy.

Thanks Graham. Nearly finished fitting the 7.5” discs and callipers now, just the petrol tank, pump swirl pot etc to finish fitting, the seats to bolt in then we’re just about ready to go.

So the brakes are changed now and the passengers side arches are completely finished. It’s looking hopeful for the end of the month.

Getting closer. Just the fuel cell, swirl pot and pumps to finish mounting, the seats to fit and a few minor jobs. Not far off now.

Cheers Nic. After it’s first run out last night I came to the following conclusions.

1: Must wear ear plugs when driving Mini.
2: Must change to a taller FD with 10” wheels.

Lowestoft, Suffolk.

Instead of changing the FD it could be easier swapping the primary gear to change the drop gear ratio from 1:1 to .958:1 over driving the box from memory a 3.44 diff effectively becomes a taller 3.3 (if that’s what you were using?)

When I got my first mini some 10+ years ago I remember reading your website over and over again hoping to turbo my own. It proved very helpful and I remember your car from that period.

So congratulations on getting it back on the road, I look forward to your further updates.
