Well Ive had a busy 2 weeks with many late nights and grazed knuckles*frown*. It all started with me getting the mini ready for a Irish mini track day in Mondello which took place on Friday just gone (great day out by the way! a shame it was lashing rain)

me like a plonker being a pickey idiot I decided to tidy up all the blemishes in the current paint job nothing major of course! but wouldnt you know it when I repaired one blemish I moved onto another and before I knew it I was on course for a full respray

luckily I got the mini over to the garage and booked into the spray booth then I had to fake a few sick days to make sure she was complete... sometimes it has to be done*tongue*

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m66/hug...paintjob001.jpg

anyway got her all prepped myself and in 2pack and left the spraying to my dad

Got her fully sprayed, rebuilt and out to Mondello on time although Thursday night was a late 1...

She drove like a dream all the way down (bout 25miles from where I live in Dublin) was boosting fine, I had her set at 10psi..

I was a happy camper*happy* but things were going too well and on my second session something wasnt right coming down the home straight so I eased off, luckily 15feet before I pulled in the HG went on cylinder 4, and she started blowing, temp was fine, boost was normal, it just went*frown*
So today its been more work on the mini whip out the head shes off to get skimmed on Monday, I think its a BK451 that most are using from looking at previous posts so Ill be getting one of them ASAP.
Hopeing to have her back on the road in a week or 2( Im gona replace the Clutch slave aswell)

Its actually so funny when minis bring you back to reality just when everything is looking gravy*happy*

Did it blow from number four out to the side? Are you using 11 studs in the head, as mine blew here when only using 9 studs and the head lifted.

Just a thought.

ooooh! split right through your hole!!

probably worth checking the block is flat while the heads off, maybe countersink the stud holes a bit too.*wink*

Never had one blow out the side - in fact the only time i have blown one was into a waterway.
I don't have the 11-studs, but the block is drilled for it. If it ever happens out of the side - I'll drill the head and 11-stud it... Until then - it's 9 all the way.

Should have the head back tomorrow evening so Im gona clean down the block and make sure all is well before I start the rebuild,

I also found the diaphram in my DV is kablamo'd so Ive ordered a Kevlar replacement, I believe gents on here swear by them*happy*

thats exactly how my head gasket went

it never happened when the block was 11 stud, only with the new 9 stud one

fitted the extra 2 studs and all has been fine since
