My car doesn't start at the turn of the key (it does when cold) after i've been driving the car for a while, then shut it off and try to start it again within let's say half an hour.

I assume it is the heat of the turbo that vaporises the fuel in the float chamber. I do have a carb heat shield fitted and have an air "outlet" in the bonnet.

I was thinking (because of a reply on a post on carb connections) to reattach the carb vent (or anti run on) valve. This would vent the float chamber after shutting down the engine and releases the vapour. Would this work or am I thinking the wrong way??

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

it would help nico re -installing the venting sysytem but your still going to have these problems especially in a mini in ..........cramped confines compoundig the issue

extrat boost power compounds this matter "slightley" with the extra heat

Easiest way I found is rest your foot on the floor when hot

Lol, welcome to the world of turbo minis......... my float chamber bubbles away happily after a good run and its a pig to start afterwards.

As dangerous says, it does help to open the throttle a bit

mines the worst i've ever seen for hot starting problems, even witht he bonnet kicked up and a heat shield. i know me and kean thought about venting the float chamber a while ago but neither of us have got round to it yet.

As above. Press the throttle wide open when starting hot, obviously let it off quickly as soon as the engine fires. It actually tell you to do this in the Metro Turbo owners manual !

That always gave me trouble. I learnt to drive easy for a bit before coming to a stop.

Renault 5 turbos have a small fan that is ducted below the carburettor, to blow cold air onto it...

202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

Mine does the same, I just use a heavy right foot to start it and take it easy before turning it off.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Antiperc fan, they were supposed to be really unreliable, I never had a problem with hot starting on my R5, even without the antiperc connected.

The starter tends to stick if your been on boost for a number of hours, only happend to me once though.

That was the gordini turbo's,they put the turbo or first silencer under the front wheel arch ! It used to melt the tyre when you parked it up.
