I dont have a blind puller and needed to remove my idler gear bearing in the flywheel housing so came up with this method to remove it which took about 5 minutes once i came up witht he idea.

Firstly i removed the roller bearings by tapping them out with a punch, a flathead screw driver would also suffice. You then need to remove the metal holder that the rollers are pushed into. I done this by putting a screw driver into a slot and twisting it, this causes it to distort and then can be easily removed which will leave you with the bearing race.

I then got two 1 inch washers and elongated the holes on them and put them offset on a long m10 bolt so they are spaced enough to fit under the lip on the bearing then tightene the
washers in place with a nut.

the washers on the bolt can then be put underneath the lip on the bearing race.

you then need a solid bracket/piece of thick steel or as i used the part of my engine stand that the block attaches to.
You lay this flat over the flywheel housing with a hole in it with the bolt popping through it and put a nut on it.

tighten the bolt and the bearing should pull out straight and true

one bearing race removed

one housing ready for cleaning and a new idler bearing.

Hope this is of some use to anyone

That's a good tip, nice and simple.

There is no better way to my mind than a blind puller but when it's late at night and you need it back together to go to work in the morning these sort of tips really help people out.

Thanks for sharing!

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

i was going to buy a blind puller but cheapest i could find them for was about £50 which is money i could put on my engine rather than a tool id use once.

You won't need it only once. You'll need it once a year *wink*

Do you have to replace the idler bearings once a year or is there other bearings needed pulling with it?

Another way, is fill the bearing with grease, find a good fitting socket, and hit it will a hammer.
Grease forces bearing out. Works well with ford cross flow spigot bearings & washing machines. *wink*
Not sure if it works with mini style bearing. Will try it one day

i have the luxury of a large wood fire pizza oven few min after being sat on the heat bricks in there upside down if fell out with a tap on the back side

but given this method takes 4-5 hours for the oven to heat threw the blind puller shits all over it although pizza is your reward for waiting..

I use a 5kg sliding hammer & ground down washer... Case on ground, feet on case and jerk it hard...
