so i had a huge load of fun(sic) getting my beam on this week.
first the subframe bolts were a bit awkward ,but only one snapped off so thats good *angry* welded a big nut to the snapped off bit and it came out *happy*
then offered up the beam and the middle locating tags hit the car before the side plates hit the sills *angry*
so removed the middle locators ,and bolted that bad boy up ,,,,er ,,well no i didnt *angry*...cos the poxy holes were the wrong distance apart ..so out with my bosch porting barstard tool ,and elongated the holes the same each side to cater for this prob ,and on it went *happy*
then had great fun doing up the sill bolts expecting a stripped thrread as it conformed the beam plates to the end of the sill profile ,which was deff not flat *frown*
but it was OO KK ,so then welded the midd mounting points back on and bolted them through the backplate with BIG washers *happy*
then checked camber and it was .5 pos EEEK
so easily adjusted it to .5 neg with the spanky up and down screw fingy,s *smiley**tongue*
most excellent.
then got out my string and weights and got down to some serious measuring .*surprised**surprised*
WELL with strings parallel ,and equuidistant from car ,
hmmmm ,not so good ..
rear end is toe out 2mm both sides *tired**tired**crying*
this is NOT GOOD,
also beam is 4mm more to the left than the right .
which almost exactly mirrors the front which is 3.5mm over to the right !!*tired**tired*
so on monday ill spacer up the inner mounts and get some sexy toe in (no nic not camel)
and spacer out the right hand rear 5mm to bring the car square front and back ,and then it should be good to go ....
or maybe not
problem with ride height... even with the right hand coil over 10mm down the thread ,that side is 10mm higher than the left .so i think ill hit every bump arounf for a while and see if it settles ,then do the camber again .*tongue*
phew ,what a palaver !!
maybe this is why beams have an unsavoury rep ,cos they are all wonky if you just bang them on ?

I've been chatting to a few people here about what t do with my rear suspension, and I'm toying over welding some box section to the beam and running it under the floor to add addition mounting points thus preventing it from rotating.

Note this is not my own idea but one based upon a custom beam that another member of this site is looking into.

As Rob says I'm looking at the current beam designs with a little concern. I've previously modded the speedex type to get a good location but there is a better way ..........

More when I have something to show.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Where are the forces coming from trying to rotate the beam though? Surely if its bolted up in 4 places it can't really rotate about its axis? Or am I missing something?

brakes acting to push the beam vertically down ,and to try to pull it off the car backwards .
right and left hand corners to push the beam sideways ,also to twist the end of the beam up or down .
