oh with the output shafts should they just slide straight in or do they need persuasion

Are you talking about putting the pot joints into the diff? If so then thay need a little persuasion. There should be a spring clip in the groove at the end of the output shaft spline. As the pot joint is pushed in the spring clup will compress. That is the force that needs to be overcome. A wiggle and a good shove is all that is needed. http://www.twin-turbo.co.uk
