looking at quickshifts and tempted by the new design kad one, any1 got recommendations or warnings?

Only thing i would say is buy a kad one not a copy! From the copys i have had the past they are not worth the saving as they are poor quality!

I made my own by cutting the bayonette off another rod change and welding it on top of my one then made a longer gearstick. With a bias barrel its fab.
