Took the car out again today ; ( an possible RR session booked for two weeks time )
It really is running filthy rich at the moment ; but when I get the power on ; It just dies ;You know the feeling you get when your electrics are wet ...

Mine wasnt wet ;

DO you all think this is all linked to set up ; Ie needle and Mix and timing etc ?

If you all do then I will let the RR sort it all out ; or is there something else it good be that I should look into b4 the RR session

I have tried a new coil; still have to put in new plugs; leads and sort out the tappets

Does this happen at the boost transition point?

If it does, read some of the old posts on checking that the float chamber is being pressurised.

Ello !!

no it does not happen on at the boost point ; It buzzes up to 7PSI then when she starts zooming along nicely; it starts bogging down ; and spluttering ;

off the revs ; slow it down ; and it still splutters; until I change down a gear then its ok again ...

now I am writing more; it sounds like over fueling doesnt it

I would bet on over fueling. Mine was doing exaclty the same. I had to lower my fuel pump pressure to 3.5psi at idle. Then all the problems stopped.

Im going with over fueling ...

When i switch off it runs on and The back of exhaust is black (rich)

gotta be ....

I am going to plumb in a fuel pressure gaugue in the car ; I can use that to set my fuel pressure at idle and should be fun to watch on the road as the boost comes in ...

wil_h has pointed out a loop hole in my wiring
I am taking the 12v for the dizzy from my coil
as I have a ballast resisitor in place this would mean that my dizzy is only getting about 9v

I wonder if this is why ; when the car is up in 4th gear and underload ;trying to accelarate hard; it coughs and splutters ?

What do you rekon Chaps ?

thank you
my problem was
"the Rubber Balance pipe. This is actually a ?part-throttle? lean off device, and is also found on some ?economy models? of other SU fitments. This has an accurately sized orifice that is tuned to the standard engine. As soon as any modifications are made, this becomes incorrect, and can cause excessive Lean out under part throttle or gentle acceleration.

I think this was on turboDaves website ( am i right )

anyways CHEERS the i clamped this pipe and the car runs like a dream !!!!

It uses more fuel yes - but only when stat at cruise on the motorway at 50-70mph... Fit a different cam, or change the CR, and it's useless anyway!
