as this is the most helpful site in the world, i thought i'de ask here lol

has anyone changed a timing belt on a 1.6 8v megane, 19 or scenic? (same engine) mine slipped on the motorway last night but thankfully didnt snap.

Natuarally the car wont start as i have to reset all the timing, but is there any tricks to doing this? ive read the haynes manual and it seems to be about 15 steps......

any do's and don'ts anyone knows about? anything elese i should check?

Thanks

ive hopefully got someone comming out to change the actual belt now and set the timing up.

However he told me to check the valves first, cause they could be knackered.

will this be a visual insection job or is there another way (compression test is out the question as the timing is so far out, surely? lol)

Sorry for being a dumbass lol

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

see what happens when it turns over. if they all seem to move up and down ok you should of got away with it.

best is to take off the cam cover and push it along the flat whilst in 4th or 5th.
