Does anyone here lengthen the pin/plunger/bar whatever its called, that goes into the clutch slave? Had trouble on my last engine with it not disengaging properly, and having problems now, even with my carpets out and foot to the floor it only just goes into gear.

I heard today from someone that some people lengthen the bars, then i remembered a turbodave thread from ages ago but cant remember where.

If you lot do lengthen them, how do you do it? Just weld a nut on the end or something?

thankyou

james

Wolfie made some. All I've done is weld a piece into the rod.

The clutch article is on the manchester minis website.

I lengthened mine but found that I was snapping clutch arms at a rate of about 1 every 3 months.

I spaced the CRB off instead which puts the clutch arm back into its proper operating range.

I have a selection of different length pins, just weld a bit on to them to make them longer, although I normally try to use the shortest pin that works as you want make sure the clutch fully releases.

how much in average do you weld on rob? i was worried about getting the tip of it uneven. if it just disengages with the foot to floor iwth carpets out, do you reckon 3mm extension sounds like about right? thanks *happy*

1/8 of an inch should sort it, although I've used longer on the MG before, tbh if it needs much more than an 1/8 then the clutch probably needs some tlc.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

an excellent write up by turbo dave as usuall

the problems i have found if the clutch worked fine and now its playing up

after the slave cylinder has been checked out for full travel on one engagement

the problem here is in experience the pre vertro pressure plate weakens off with age, simpley replacing the plate sorts this out *wink*

if you dont do this and just extend the rod your going to place massive loads on the thrust washers on the crank, resulting with it soon worn thrusts and the clutch pedall will be back to the same problem

now you have two problems
