how do chaps, got a call from the machine shop today! my machined components are coming home! block crank rods & pistons, i'm really excited! i have to take the rottating parts for balancing but then the assembly of the short block can begin! a step forward, waiting for the call to collect my cylinder head still :( but things are looking up hopefully!

any hints & tips for things to check for once its back & pre assembly jobs, how to clean it properly etc etc, all the info on pre-build short block prep!

fingers crossed for avon chaps!

its back, had a good look & they've done what i asked & i'm impressed with the finishes on the surfaces, i'm trying to get pics up but the pc is being an arse!

basicly i've had the block acid dipped, threaded oil galley plugs but i have to get the plugs myself, i have the thread size written down so i'll put the in the help section,

they've put a manderel through to check the straightness of the end caps, new cam bearings fitted, new core plugs

centre mains strap with long bolts, block has had a minimal skim on the deck as the chap advised & gave me reasons why this should be done! he said he'll do the absolute minmal skim to make sure its flat!

conrods have had the pressfit pistons removed the small end honed to size to accept circlip pistons, they have then been crack tested

crank has beed repolished & the oil holes in the crank countersunk square as the factory finish on mine was dodgy here,

they supplied me with "ae" crank, thrusts & rod bearings, are these ok, if nt then i dont mind getting an uprated type if they are preferable

oh yeah the bores have been bored +20 for my pistons & honed! i just need to check it over & paint the block, i'm so nervous! 1st build too! what have i let myself in for!!!! *happy* cackin it! but confident!

AE bearings will be fine. Ensure there is no oil under the shell when installed.

yes feebs it did, thanks buddy well appreaciated! is ya mini running ok? you were stressing about the rust last i read on ya car, just put waxoyl on it as a weather barrier! or get 3 2kg bags of silka gel & leave them in the corners of the garage, that stops some of the moister i nthe air! & expandy foam any gaps/joints in the garage!

cheers mr fenton!!! i'll remeber to do that with the shells

anyone, where can i get threaded oil galley plugs/bungs, other than them being flush fitting to the face of the block do they need to be a specific metal type or what, do i threadlock them in?

i've got to weld a hole in my compressor tonight! :( ran out of gas, i need it to shot blast my flywheel as its a lil surface rusty! & i need it to blow the holes & such on the block, seems very clean though, not found any swarf, & i'm looking with my good eye *happy* hehe!
