full lenght sunroof hole gotta go

trying to get rid of the full length sunroof whole and i was going to go ahead and going to fill it with a peice of sheet metal and have the sheet metal rolled to give it a slight curve to go with the rest of the lines on the roof ,has anyone done this ?

live in america so it costs an arm and a leg to get a new roof panel just for shipping alone it is insane ,plus the companies take forever to get parts over here so wait time equals down.

But my advice would be to source a roof cut off another mini, trimmed off just near the gutter. I'd then use something like sikaflex and bond the new roofskin in place.

Won't you loose a load of strength?

I'd unstich the old roof pannel and weld on a new one... possibly deseaming at the same time

Sikaflex... This stuff has to be seen to be believed... If you stuck two pieces of 1mm steel together, left to set, then put then in a tensile testing machine, the metal would yeild before the sikalfex would!
I'm not keen on the idea of changing a whole roofskin personally!

I think I would be tempted just to replace the sunroof.

yeah it would be nice to replace just the sunroof but noooo it couldnt be so simple trying to get a new webasto sunroof is just insane in price and time to get it ,i was going to get a secound hand roof but here in america they arnt easy to find .nor is anything else mini,and when you do find a roof it costs about 300 for shipping

Then you might as well replace the webasto roof!

I appreciate you are in America, but you might want to talk to R&S Coachbuilts (www.tudorwebasto.com). A new webasto top cover is only ?85.

i may just fill it up i have scene it befor and it looked good or i amy try to find an american equivelant of the sunroof

well if you want - i can cut the roof off a scrapper and stick it in my container in September - but only if you PM me!
