hey fellas
is it true that drop gears take more strain than the gearbox in general?
therefore would straight cut ones be better at first than a whole straight cut transmission? keeping in mind im on a g string budget

thanks
tom

Opinions do vary on this matter...

Given what I've been reading from knowledgable folks* who have succesfully run helical idlers for good miles in high-power applications - I would be inclined to give stock drop-gears a try, and get a Minispares 'clubman' SC transmission for the benefit of the far superior ratio's.

You MUST rebuild the standard drop setup, using the superior Torrington bearings under the idler, and using the best condition idler you can find in your parts collection - aswell as making sure it is shimmed correctly on installation.
