Hi

Is there a way I can check headlamp alignment at home?

Thanks

I always do mine up against a garage. I get a car I know the lights are OK and mark the pattern on the door (well a piece of card on the door). Then get the car with the lights I want to adjust and get them close to what I marked. The MOT test is quite noddy so long as they are in the right ball park it will be fine.

It gives the exact height and distance you check them from in the haynes (if your talking about a mini)? :)

Only problem with modern cars is that alot of them have adjustable beam height. Not sure how you would know what the correct height would be?

I didn't realise it was in the haynes book either. Like I say though there is a big window of acceptible aligned lights, so long as it is close it will be fine.

I'm going to try your idea first Ben as it seems the simplest way of getting it close. Now why didn't I think of that... :)

Thanks

Over here our National Car Test or NCT (basically a MOT) its a failure if your lights are out in the slightest... they love failing you for stupid things like slight headlight alignment and windscreen washer not hitting the windscreen!!!... its basically revenue for the government... its a nightmare... id love to be able to get away with a ball park figure but that would cast me €50 for a re-test... bloody NCT (bitter am I?)

As Ben says, as long as the headlights aren't pointing at the sky or floor then generally you'll be OK.

any DECENT mot station shouldnt mind givin your headlamps a twiddle for you. if you think there out leave the rings off so the person can adjust them accordingly

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

I've found that headlight alighment is often done for free at the test anyway as long as its easy to do, i.e. all the bits in good nick *smiley*
