A local chappie told me today ; nar you dont need a intercooler on a mini turbo; its a waste of time as enough cold air gets in their anyway

I ask my fellow MiniTurbo boys on this website

Is he talking crap

I think I can predict the overwhelming response from you lot

YES !!!!!!!!!!!

anyways I am gunna be fitting a intercooler because many of you on her have already told me its worth doing ...

Why would this guy have this misconception ?

My sister is so fit I won't show anyone her picture

Lake District

The guy obviously knows bollock all.
You only have to measure the intake temp drop when an effective intercooler is fitted to realise how worthwhile they are, even more so when higher boost levels are used.

What in? His rubber dinghy?

Ask him what his compressor efficiency is at that boost level. You don't have to know what it is, just see what bullsh1t he comes out with!

Basic thermodynamics always stipulates that if you compress air, it heats up.
Air at elevated temperatures is less dense; by less dense we mean there are fewer molecules per set volume because the distance between the molecules has increased. Hence, the full benefite of compressing the air in the first place is not being realised.
Intercooling, cools down the charge air, whilst retaining the charge pressure, thereby packing even more molecules into the same (compressed) volume.

It is a lot more complex than that in reality, but in laymans terms, that's all you need to know. This is true for any 'conventional' Forced induction engine - without exception!
It also shows why you must re-tune after fitting an intercooler.
Whether you would see a benefit, in relation to the fitting effort if you only ever ran 5psi is questionable however...

Yeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh right

When i got the intercooler fitted ; on a standard set up ie 9.4:1 what sort of boost would you rekon is safe .... 8-9 PSI ? or more ...

id stick with 8psi tops myself as long as its well set up.

All depends on what your using the car for! If you dont mind it going pop then go a bit higher, im just playing with my engine, if it goes pop no worries as im building a higher spec one next anyway, this is only a temp measure to keep me turbo'd!
