Just wanted to ask a quick question. Basically when it comes to sticking the running gear/engine back onto the car should i:

Put the turbo engine on the subframe and then lift the shell up and drop over so that the engine goes in with the subby. then bolt on the exhaust manifold, carb etc after.

OR

should i put the subframe on seperately then build up the engine with the manifold on and drop it in?

Any advice here would be much appreciated.

Thanks

James.

I'd personally say depends on your facilities. If you havn't got an engine crane, or are using a flip front, drop the car onto it. If not vice versa.

There is no sense crying over every mistake- you just keep on trying til you run out of cake.

i hate doing the car lifting method, prefer to drop the engine in from the top even if i had to hire a crane for a day.

Cheers guys, i was worried that i might have trouble bolting on all the turbo bits once the engine was in situe. Think i might just lift the car and slide the gnien in along with the subframe.

Thanks very much.

Tend to agree with you on that one mate, but needs must as the devil drives (or lack of money in my case!)

I've never really understood why anyone would want to remove the whole subframe when only the engine needs to come out.

It's so much extra work, not least having to bleed the brakes..

Even with a full steel front end on, me and my bro can easy lift an engine straight in (and we're skinny buggers).

Yep I have to agree with Wil. I have removed a subframe and engine as one once, never again. You have to get the body so high to clear the engine and balancing the subframe is a pain.

To be honest I am going to drop the engine in after the subframe when It comes to reassembly.

It was a bit of a fiddle to lift the shell off the the engine and when I have a fresh painted shell I don't want to risk dropping it.

And if you do it like above, you now have a car you can't move easily, and an engine top heavy on a subframe with wheels that want to go anywhere but straight!

I always do the engine in from the top. I hate bleeding brakes.
