Lad came round tonight offering me a fully built engine for £60. The only things missing is the timing gears and chain and all.

Put it this way mate- pay him 6#the 60 quid for it, strip it, then if it turns out to be screwed sell the parts seperatly on ebay. You could probably even turn a profit. There is no sense crying over every mistake- you just keep on trying til you run out of cake. |

Got it for £20 so thought its worth the risk for that still havent a clue why you would take the time chain and gears off |

bargain imho, would be worth the price of a gasket set to strip it and check it over before you bang it in a motor 133.5 bhp 123 lb torque 116mph @6640rpm 9.5psi

I find it strange that the rockers move in the head when the engine is turned if the chain is missing.... |

It just said that the rockers and valves move, not necessarily when the engine it turned over.......

i'll whip the head off and have a look at the pistons before putting it in, but yes £20 cant be much though can it makes you wonder. Think he couldnt be bothered to lift it back in the car. Cos he left it with me. So i could have a look. |
