I'm thinking of making and fitting my own unleaded seats. It will cost a bit to tool up but I've got several heads to do.

Anyone know how hard the seat material has to be?

I've seen Stellite mentioned on some sites, but on Axel's Morspeed head, the seats look like a bit of turned stainless bar.

I was thinking of using some 316 bar, any ideas?

I THINK my (and Vegards) machinist uses old camshafts as valveseats?! You can also get them from the Rover parts dealers I think.

That's a good idea. I've got about 4 standard 998 cams.

So what material are the cams?

Minispares do sell the inserts at about £6 each, but only have the 29mm ones in stock at the moment.

Thanks robert.

Forgotten more than most ever know

IIRC my pet machinist told me once that alloy vs. iron heads use different material for inserts.
