Just spent all tonite on the metro.

Aggreed with somone on the net that i would buy a complete MG engien from them that will run perfect for ?120. It was to have all the carb, manifolds etc. ONly thing i would need was my exhaust mounts and cooling bits, and to get a exhaust that would work.

I walked to riddlesden today, about 3 miles out of town with no car, and walked back with an exhaust. Luckliy Tim, my local mechanic sold me a complete newish system and a complete mini front wiring loom for ?20 which was all i had left.

Tonite, engine came at 9:30, no exhaust bits, laods of bolts and nuts missing, no starter motor, fuel pump on it though. Head off. Came with all the gaskets tho, but its all a throw together one, its not the low mileage MG one we were on about. Messed about for ages trying to get my old 1.3 engine apart because the new one didnt have a thrust bearing with it to build it, or a oil seal as he promised to build it up there and then. Fair enough though, we all worked really hard.

Its now 1:25am, ive only just got in, and the only thing on the engine is the head which i have just torqued up. Ive got loads of bits missing like the altenator etc and washers and nuts. I saw this ?120 as a get rid of the metro fast option. When they left, i only paid them ?60 and will give them the rest when its running.

However im now having second thoughts. Im going to end up spending a fortune now, loads of silly little things like spark plugs, fanbelts, gaskets which are going to cost even more. Its also going to take alot longer, i took the day off work tomoow with the hope of getting it running.

What im going to do now, is get all my bits of metro like the radiator and hoses etc and al them bits boxed up seperate, put them in the metro along with my new exhaust (are the 1.3 ones the same as the 1.0 liter metros?) and first thing monday morning im going to get tim to drop an engine in it. It will have to be a 1litre though as he has no 1.3's.

The cars only for my girlfriends mum though, so not really needed to be a 1.3 although her dad wants it to have one! He will never know :)

How much do you reckon it will cost to have a 1litre dropped in? Im thinking about ?50 with his prices if not less. I need to think of the best way to get my ?60 for the 1.3 engine back though but i feel tight with all the effort and time they put in tonite, aswell as bringing the engien bits from hull and the petrol money.

why how much is it worth?

Toed the metro down tonite, its outside his garage ready for tomorow. Do they already have the 8mm outlets yeah?

got ALOT of welding done tonite, then the gas pipe split, so stil havent been able to do the crossmember bit. got my friends over who can weld from leeds, really good job done.
