how do all, i have a steel coundersink bit & my block has already been machined, i know its preferable to countersink threaded holes befor the block is decked but i have'nt that option soof we go

my question is, whats my best method, i only have a handheld drill to do it, i can hold it steady but...........will it affect how the headstud hooks up with the threads!!! i presume i'll have to run a tap in???? or will i get away with it? i plan to have the hoover running next to where i'm countersinking to catch the swarf! i'l be super carefull & clean the block in all the areas after to be safe!

i've ran a needle file around the bore edges & i'm just tidying the block up, checking it over before i spray it up!

let me know chaps, all advice is apprieciated! from lil-dave

I did mine with the engine in,Had to do quite a big one on one stud as the thread had pulled up causing a lump.
About a 1mm chamfer I did and have had no head gasket probs at 15 psi.
Just tape up the bores/holes with 2" masking tape to stop the swarf going in

When i did mine in the car I just taped over the top of the block and used a cordless drill to countersink them a tad, blew the crap of with the airline and stuck the head back on.

The hovers a good idea, but i'd recomend a bit of tape over the bores still.
