Silly question but i cant work out which way the fan goes on and if its put on the wrong way is it serious? Is it indented side to the water pump or the other side with shiney washers.

cheers

It should be marked on the fan IIRC.

The concave (smooth part) should be facing the rad. If it is fitted the wrong way I think It rubs on the timing chain breather?

is it or is matty and tom say different ways i'm really confused

say it doesnt catch either way is there a big prob?

i was think one way will be forcing the air into the rad and the other will be forcing it away?

Just put it on the way that looks wrong.

Smooth side faces the water pump. Webbed side towards the rad.

I'm sure it says on the fan.

Apologies *blush* it is smooth side pump, just had a look at some old photos of mine!

It should be marked on the fan though?

the blades are curved so when fitted the wrong way the efficiency of the fan is greatly reduced.

the fan is marked engine side on the smooth bit, so smooth side to engine.

No, When the fan is fitted the wrong way the hot air from the rad is drawn into the engine bay, instead of being forced out. To say that "the efficiency of the fan is greatly reduced" would be an understatement. It would be heating up the engine bay and not cooling the water in the rad at all.

wrong..

the fan still spins in the same direction and the angle of the blades are still the same, so the air flows in the same direction.

the blades are shaped like the wing of a plane so work best the right way up, or in this case the right way out.

the fan may or may not hit the rad when on the wrong way, but is obvious. the loss of efficiency is not so obvious but just/if not more important.

Agree with Turbo Shed on efficiency/direction, it will still draw air the right way.

I'm a tit!

I had to make a full blown experiment to get that straight in my head. I had to make a fan out of a couple of post-it notes. lol!!!

lol! I'm not the only one that has to conduct mini practical experiments to test these theories!

Thanks f**k for that, I felt like a right looser!

Is it sad that I'm quite please with the fan I made. I nearly posted a pic on here!
