does anyone know what happens to a dump valve?

I fitted a new dump valve and ive only use it a little, the car has been off the road for a bit but whats happening is im not getting the wooooshh sound but a dull sshhhhhhhh any ideas?

I have tried cleaning it and re lubing but still no better

Iam also suffering from misfire during the transition period is this due to the dump valve not sealing correctly?

many thanks in advance

if its a piston type then you may have to clean it and grease it, but it wont last long. the solution is to fit the vacum pipe at the bottom to stop the build up of fuel etc.

if cleaning and greasing dont work, it could be a vacum leak

if the dump valves a diaphram type then the diaphram could be split or again it could be a vacum leak

good point about it making boost in the first place.

copper grease is crap for lube on dumpvales, from experience it lasted 1/2 hour or so. try silicone grease, this lasts a few days.

i had this all the time, i then fitted the DV so the vaccum pipe is at the bottom so any petrol/oil/crap entering it drains back out via the vaccum pipe.

since doing this i have never had a problem with it sticking and never had to grease it again (cleaned and greased first).

Have you blocked off the poppet valve in carb butterfly?

The poppet valve is still able to open

Its looking like a common problem i have done all i can to avoid the petrol contaminating so now i think a good dump valve is needed any ideas on a good one?

piston ones are good if you fit them properly

It will not open properly if the poppet valve in the butterfly is still there, you need to get a plain butterfly or block the hole somehow.

Tom, are you sure about the poppet valve?

i changed the butterfly about a year ago and it made no difference to the sound of the dump valve, and ive had a dump valve for about 8 to 10 years. maybe mine was stuck then?

thinking of things.....

when you cleaned and greased the dump valve did you adjust it? mine has a nut on the vaccum pipe that adjusts the tension of the spring. if you back it right off it will not close as you have described.
