just bought my new mini the other day, and the rev counter doesn't work, could anyone tell me what could be the cause of the problem? would the cable have gone?

err, no. The rev counter will be electronic. Is it a standard (i.e. Austin/ Rover fitted) or after market?

It will have 3 wires, +12 V, Earth and signal. The standard wiring for a later mini is white/black for the signal and this should be connected to the negative of the coil.

The rev counter could be broken of course, the later ones can be fragile.

25 was a low spec, but the 25 le did have a rev counter - first mini to have 8.4" disks too. check the connectors on the back mate - needs to be properly on otherwise it wont work too well if at all
