The most common method ive seen is using 2 A series thermostat housings back to back with the thermostat sandwiched in between. Its located in the same position as the A series in relation to the head and rad.

Here's a bit of reading for you to do!

http://web.tiscali.it/elise_s1/

This info could also be of benifit to any turbo / electric water pump installation. (See section on Iron block engines)

I like the idea of the two thermostat housings as a simple and cheap solution if it works OK.

Any ideas where from?

Prefer that idea to the back to back housings - much neater

Also while I'm on the subject where do people take the heater take off from?

thanks

Some older Fiats used an external Thermostat. Might be worth a look.

You can pick up "external" thermostats from various kit car suppliers - which can be made to work well and have bypass systems in them

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

I don't run one on the gold car - but that has leccie pump!

- for using std water pumps - the thermostat goes into the "top hose" between head and rad, the thermostat I use is one from NF Auto's (I think) - with a bypass to allow water circulation in the head block - whilst the stat is closed - the bypass feeds into the hose which goes from the bottom of the rad back into the pump. Also the top outlet from the head has a feed to the heater.

no overheating problems on a side mounted rad - and gives nice control of water temps

hope this helps
