How does a trailer know when it's in reverse so the brakes don't come on?

If I park my trailer on a hill with the rear end of it facing down the hill, will the handbrake still work if it tries to roll backwards?

If it's an auto reverse trailer then the brakes don't work in reverse, so yes, with the hadbrake on it will roll backwards down the hill.

Mine does.

I'm mainly concerned about swirl in the runners caused by the tangential entry.
