I notice some talk about pistons going on ...

can you help me understand .

When I melt my pistons ( which is inevitable )

what are my choices then ? and How much would a set of pistons and rings cost ?

Bit naughty that comment Alex...

He knows enough to run a decent business and some pretty succesful racecars in the past...

I'm not saying he is a god, but equally he's not a total muppet!

I have only spoken to him twice...

Once was about fitting rear disks to a mk2 Scirocco... he gave me completely wrong advise and tried to sell me wrong parts. I say tired as I found out his advice was wrong before I brought the parts!

Second time, I ask him about tuning on turbo minis and he said nothign above 4psi of boost was possible on std CR and that even an intercooler would have no benifit at all....

I can only go by my personal experience, so I stand by my comments.

Running a decent buisiness is not necessarly a good pointer to a compitant and knowledage mechanic/engineer.... its more about a good head for business!!

but advising against running more than 4psi is wise in my opinion - he doesn't know who u are, and that you actually know what you are talking about...
Imagine there is some joey out there with a badly set up engine, that's had the head skimmed a few times, coupled with a 'TIM' boost gauge, and who knows what advance setting... and if someone in a shop says "sure, 7psi should be fine"...
Well, you get my drift! Even though i tell people that with std CR, and 98RON fuel that maybe 10psi is possible once set up on a Rolling Road, the numbers who think they know what they are doing and ignore the RR advice, then moan about 'turbo reliability' is unbelievable!

I will admit, i used to think the same way about Hargreaves when i started out - but on the rare occasions i've chatted to him, and we've reached an understanding that i'm not just some punk with a bleed valve and colourtune, he's been ok... He certainly knows the differnce between a good and Bad oil pump - something minispares need to learn!
