Hi there guys
I have searched, but not found exactly what i needed.

I have a problem.
The engine runs well when stationary, revs freely up to 5-6000 RPM
However, when driving, the engine doesn't want to run past 3000RPM, it just loses power and starts kangarooing, I have set the fuel pressure to 3psi on idle, (brand new regulator). Welded the dizzy weighs up. fiddled with the ignition advance and fuel mixture for ages still getting same problem,

Is there anything else i could try before getting it set up professionaly. i don't want to have missed anything that i can do myself.

Cheers
Chris

gasket between the plenum and carb the right way round?

sounds like an issue with no fuel on boost and there is a hole that equalises pressure in the carb to rise with boost.

my moneys on that.

basically make sure all the holes are where they should be and your not blocking any off.

Its a hole that goes from the plenum to the float chamber that basically makes the carb boost sensitive.

It should be fairly obvious if you take the plenum off if you are blocking any holes.

It isnt symetrical so you need to fit the turbo gasket the right way round, i'm not sure on the non turbo gasket if it has the hole but its not hard to add one.

ah right, thats pretty detrimental to a turbo car running i guess!!

Also, is the turbo gasket a paper one?

could also be the turbo to air filter pipe sucking flat, or the standard fuel filter in the tank.

have you inspected the balnce pipe (from front of carby to float chamber , it generally crank and leak, so float chamber doesn't see boost)

Well i checked the gasket.
It was blocking the hole on the carb, "great" i thought easy fix. BUT, it's still the same, so i think it is a culmination of things.

The balance pipe is good, there is no fuel filter in tank, its a new one after the pump below the tank, but i see 3-4PSI at the carb anyway.
No air filter on turbo yet.

Only next thing i can try is run the engine without the boost pipe attached i.e N/A

See if the problem is with boost or just a case of ignitiopn or fuel!?!

any ideas?

seem that the float chamber doesn't see the pressure, where is going float vent pipe?

Fab, which vent pipe do you mean? the balance pipe?the one from the side of carb to the fron of carb.

Or is there another hole/pipe on the carb somewhere?

maybe i need to give the whole carb a strip and clean?!!?

I'll try that tomo, cheers.

you have three pipes going to the floart chamber , balance pipe (front one), fuel feed (back lower one), vent pipe (back upper one)

ah right.
The fuel vent pipe is unblocked.
The fuel feed is tight sealed.
Not sure if the balance pipe might be blocked.
The guy i bought the carb from said it was sat on a shelf for a few years. Maybe a rebuild is needed. LOL

IIRC

I did have a problem with starting the engine due to the float was stuck shutting off the fuel feed, i sorted it so i could start the engine, maybe there is something more serious wrong in the carb.

fuel vent pipe needs to be blocked.

check some of the FAQ's with carb plumbing in there. it should show you how as i think thats all it is.

Cheers Iain

Just noticed TurboDave did a flippin good IDIOTS guide
http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=6298

LOL

I'm a real novice to this turbo malarky!!
trying to get my head around it.

Didi not realise to block the fuel return off, i thought it was just a fuel overflow pipe like on the N/A HIF44.

use a t piece from plenum boost piping and connect it to float chamber it'll assure that you have a strong signal when you going from vacuum to boost, blocking the balance pipe is not a good idea if your using this car daily,
I used a solenoid in this piping, everyday, solenoid on (the one from the genuine float vent piping), extra boost extra days solenoid of (block balance pipe
