what carb & cam choice would you chaps go for on a 1330 all fully balanced, ultralight flywheel & backplate, wedged crank, lightened/shotpeeded rods, MED 11 stud road comp spec head, 1.5 roller rockers, recondition box with central pickup, its for my dads minivan, he's after a n/a motor that makes torque from low down & pulls as hard as a n/a mini engine can

i was thinking weber but if there are better choices, maybe twin hif carbs with a custom linkage

all help appreciated as always chaps cheers

A single HIF44 and a 266 or 276 cam would be my choice.

for torque in mind and drivability I would bin these 1.5.
if it were mine I would use twin 1.5's on a good manifold, an hif44 for easy peasy,
about cam I like the 544, even if not a "modern" *laughing* cam, regarding me it's one of the best leyland cams for road,above11/1 cr it also retain good idling, after that a 285 or 286 will give good results but are less compliant with environnement , engine one (cr exhaust advance , lca), and traffic one , all three will put a smile on your face above 3000,
if that's too much ,this engine is largely overengineered, you'll make a fortune on ebay

whats the opinion on twin hifs, even if the y were 2 hif38's the 1.5" type

sheer unadulterated torque is what he's after! somat that gives the gearbox/diff greaf! its only a weekend/highdays car so is'nt used much at all, probobly no more than 10 times a year if that!

it'll more than llikely run megajolt too!

cheers all

I would use twin hs4, the hif4/38 varity are lightly better but will give some troubles with starter circuit seals, on mini twin set up their perf are equals.
on my mind 266 is to short on revs 276 hasn't the 266 low end, then start to go, then you're waiting something..i'm still waiting.
I don't think that megajolt will give something above an mg dizzy with the 280 type cams, give the 544/649 a go you'll not be disapointed,
for the little story, it was free when I tried it (a stock that no one wanted) , so put it in a 1275 with mg head lightly worked 11.5 cr, a 3.44 diff webber 45 38's , mg dizzy vacuum blocked, max ad 30° , we wanted to upgrade so 1.5hl stage 4 head large maniflow , 3.9 diff, then 649 cam... the first engine was missing
