should i remove the bleed valve?

I have heard that having a bleed valve does more harm than good?

At the moment i quite like it cause im only doing small journeys and all the boost is a bit much at times so i have turned it right down thinking i would get a little more duration out of engine/turbo

but am i doing more harm than good?
