Im in need of a rebore, skim and to have a centre mainstrap fitted but morspeed seem to be taking the piss with lead times lately so I need to find someone else to do the work.

Can anyone recommend a good place to get the above work done?

Cheers

Matt

Not sure Nic? Wheres abouts is he based?

TBH if worst comes to worst I would probably be allowed to send the block from my work so I won't get stung for postage!

I have used him before and he is a top bloke and keeps to his target dates pretty much to the day.

Panyes in eynsham seem to be getting a good rep lately.

Here's the prices he quoted me today. Seem VERY reasonable, especially as alot of people speak highly of his work.

Not to sure on the price of the crank regrind mind...seems a little steap?

Rebore to 1293cc £50 plus vat

Reface Block £30. plus vat

Machining and fitting centre main strap £30. plus vat

Regrinding of crank £150 plus vat

Approx time - two weeks.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

so £260 for a crank grind, bore and fit a main strap. does seem fairly pricey to me but you cant put a price on quality.

Here is the place i use:

MBE

General Machining:
Crank Balancing £75 + VAT
Valve Seat Machining 3 Angle £3.50 + VAT per Seat
Block Boring £15 + VAT per bore
Decking £25 + VAT
General Machining £30 + VAT per hr
All "In House"

Works out about £190 if you say that a main strap is 1hrs machining, guessing it would be a fair bit less.

Yeah the prices don't seem too bad until you get to the crank grind!

Would that £75 cover the cost of grinding a crank to S main bearing size?

Yeah I asked to keep the standard stroke but have the smaller bearing size to suit the S rods.

Im tempted to buy a crank already ground as could it could work out cheaper I know Morspeed do cranks for long/short stroke for 120, so I guess keeping the standard stroke would be the same price!

I noticed that morspeed had loads of reground cranks on the shelf, not sure whether these were cutomers or stock, if they're stock then that could be the way to go?

Only local places,

a place in basildon (smiths engineering i think) used to supply glacier bearings with their reground cranks, although I only ever had imp ones done there.

have used Burtons a couple of times as i knew a guy who knew a guy who worked there ect...

have heard good thinkgs about Jon Mowat who is local to me (if he's still there) not used him though.

I still have Machine shop woes over here..

Found a guy with a decent turnround time but he wanted $450 to install guides and do a valve job plus skim... Jeezz I could ship it to Benross for that kinda money..
