overhauling my lathe the threaded screw bar you work your crosslide and top slide, are they a standard size, or they custom made,my lathe imperial,before i obtain the lathe they used it to cut clay?

They arent really a std size that can be bought at ike machine mart. It should be a box thread.

What make and model lathe is it?

When i say box thread i mean square thread not the standard thread on nuts and bolts. ^^^^^

i undestand box thread, it been 30 years since i used a lathe, used this one for rough jobs, but now i am keen to make neat work on it, its maclaw lathe, its neads some tlc. lathe been dismantled,washed and painted,

Looks like an old skool jobby to me. I'll ask me dad in the morning.
Ive never heard of Mclaw before.

The actual fascia on the front looks like an old harrison we used to have a while ago.

Unfortunatly your best bet for an identical thread would probably be from the manufacturer, who has long gone. You might get lucky and find one the same off another lathe or similar, otherwise I'd imagine you'll have to get someone to make one! I'd do it but my lathe is in a similar state atm :(

There is no sense crying over every mistake- you just keep on trying til you run out of cake.

was reading last night about thread cutting, having all the various gears to bolt on, will be in a machine shop this afternoon so i will pop the question
