Hi all,
i have afair bit of an oil leak dripping out the bottom end of my engine, but i can't decide were its leaking from and if i should take the engine out and change as many gaskets as i can with out splitting the engine and gear box as i really don't fancy that hassel. Whats the likly place its leaking from? and what you peeps recon, pull it out or do it in place?

Alex.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

wipe the engine and run it up see where its coming from

the worst offender is the halfe moon seal between the engine and gearbox

minispares and others include in their gasket set a useless floppy seal ...... useless *frown*

the orginal ones were much stiffer and had a wire band running throug it

i used the original one on my sons motor and guess what ..... no problems at all

pay particular attention to this area and the timing cover as well assembel with gakets and wellseal *wink*

treat each area leaking as a seprate issue and put it to bed
you may well have to pull the motor and sort them once and for all

dont worry about the oil leak, just park the car outside some one elses house at night. the oil will stop it rusting.

the problem is the car is laid up and when i come to look at the car its lost another ltr or so in to the drip tray. Sounds like i need to do more investigating i think its leaking some were around the drive shafts....

i dont see your problem. when the drip tray is full, strain the oil through an old sock and put it back in the engine.

or, clean the engine then look for leaks. you may have trouble if the oil is new as you cant see it.

i would say one side more than the other. mite try the sock idea. lol i could get fancy and put a magnet in the sock! good plan. I'll live with over summer then pull the engine out over winter and stirp it down abit.

the place where it is most likley over night is the drive shaft oil seals and poss ..... the remote oil seal for the gear linkage
