I pulled the head off the engine I bought from the breakers today, to find the bores to be in excellent condition with no wear lip at all and all the honing marks visable.

Can anyone tell me the compression ratio of the engine and also if the piston are up to some stick.

Google has failed me

Engine no. 12HA87AA
piston number 21268

Right, I can't match that exactly but 12HA comes out as a maestro/montego.
Also closest code match is 12HA37AA which is a low compression engine. Hope that helps!
