I'd personally just use standard ones but up to you. Yes they will still go rusty.

Not so much braking. The whole point of grooving discs is to remove the glaze on the brake pad.

remove the glaze on the brake pad,
would that help with all that brake dust you tend to get. or something else...
and can you get a brake disc that dont get so rusty.
Thanks alot

Unless you use the car hard on the track you won't notice any difference between those and standard replacements IMO. Save your money and spend it on something else is my advice, but its your car.

the only way to keep your disks looking tidy is to paint all ares that the brake pad "does not" contact, then as soon as the car is driven the part your brake pads touch is kept shiney! the rest you can paint whatever colour you like in hammerite or a hight temp paint, i've painted mine in gravi-tex anti-stone-chip which is a dark grey & still looks tidy after a jet-wash

SKYLINES ARE LIKE CLITS, EVERY FLANGE SEEMS TO HAVE ONE: see this sticker on my silvia

the Search-section on this forum is blummin superb & simple to use, unlike some other forums, without the search-section & the help of this bunch of chaps on here i'll never be able to !!!Start the day with a 998cc turbo!!! :) i'm getting closer though!

Slots do keep the discs from getting scored though and may therefore increase longlivity. Spending money on good pads (say Mintex M1144's but NOT EBC greenstuff) is a better idea. Mine are great but just need a booster!

stoke-on-trent

i've used the standard disks and decent pads for a while and it stops well enough to hurt if you really try to

i had a pug 306 rallye and it stopped well with standard pug pads and discs and the discs lasted 60,000 miles of hard use.
i then changed to EBC discs and pads and found them noisey, not as good under hard braking and needed replacing after 20,000 miles
i then fitted after market standard look discs and pads and they were atleast as good as the EBC

my opinion is that although the grooves and dimples/holes clear dust and reduce glasing improving efficiency, they also reduce surface area so reduce efficiency. end result for me was increased noise, high wear rate, high cost and no better stopping

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

i've got Tarox discs and red stuff pads on the RS and they are nosiey as fook and shite!

i've had 2 sets of tarox discs and both of them have warped.

1144's and some decent quality but std discs should do it.

get some new pads. you can get the same but you should replace the old ones.

if your old discs were rusty and you tried to clean them by driving the car and stopping, the rust off the disc sticks in the pad and the pads are bin fodder

its your life on the line as well as the person you hit, all for the price of some pads

I disagree.

You could stop from 142 using wooden pads if you wanted to.

If you want to stop repeatedly from a high speed then you'll need some good pads like mintex/pagid etc and maybe some grooved discs if you feel you need them.

It depends on what use the car is destined for and how geniunely fast your car is..

For a fast road car/ light track use I'd of thought standard discs with a good set of pads would be more than enough.

Im using standard S discs with green stuff pads and they work a treat,

I went this route with my Clio and fitted the largest discs I could get under the standard wheel. 310 mm with carbon metallic pads front (D/G) and drilled rears.

And the result is bloody noisy to say the least. Also when cold they are slow to respond and grap terribly.

But when you do get heat into them they are very very good. To the point at which the ABS can only just cope.

Way too much for a road car.

So stick with standard and good pad in my book. Thats what I’ve done with my mini.

Yeah but 310mm on a clio is worth some serious Chav-points surely?
