well guys i have just finished my engine and its all installed, my battery was flat so i left it on charge for 8-9 hours and i got in from work and gave it a try but it was cranking over very slowly, i am going to leave it on charge over night and give it a go in the morning, would it just be the battery or is there something else i could try

Try cranking it over without your plugs in, get oil pressure up. Then try to start it. A jump from a starter pack is a luxury but from another running car will do.

Is the engine a fresh totol rebuild, ie bearings etc?

yea the engine is fresh, i put a new battery on it, and it is still doing the same thing, i think i may need a new starter moter. i tried getting someone to tow me down the road and it wanted to start but it was caughing and spluttering, and backfiring. i put the dizzy from my old engine back on it and it is still doing the same thing, i am going to try my old coil on it aswell as they worked together before.
has any one got any ideas, please help!!!!

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Mines a fresh rebuild too mate, been having the saem problems!!! ive been boosting off another battery but it still struggles. Mines turns over nicely with no plugs in and oil pressure comes up quick. Got it started for the first time tonight! fires up a treat, just need to leeson it up a bit now.
My starter is reconned.

Get the timing sorted, it worked for me, i set mine with the strobe and no plugs in it. I had it 180degrees out first time round, the dizzy drive had been put in wrong (not by me!)

im well happy its running now though, got loads of bits to do before avon park!!

What I have done with the dizzy (which was also a 1000cc one) was to remove all the weights and weld it so it dosen't move. My timing is therefore fixed at 25 degrees.

This is far from ideal, but if yo haven't got a working turbo dizzy it's a cheap solution.

I Got mine running on a 998cc dizzy it ran like a pig but was good enough to get it going. my ignighter pack was bust but i was impatiant and wanted to start it so used the 998 one. would never drive on it though.

I Also hard trouble starting it due to engine speed. but that was all down to poor earths.

all you need is a 12v feed to the coil (i.e. make sure you get that at the coil, you may have a ballast, im not sure), if your struggling with power to start also try putting a seperate battery on the coil, means that it sees a full 12v even when cranking just to rule that out.

A new set of plugs will help too, i put them in only after id had it coughing and stuff though so that the old plugs got all the crap on them then when i put the new ones in they stay clean.

Hopefully get mine back on the road sunday now!
