OK not a Mirage but near enough.. and no turbo box

I have always installed the engine without the turbo/manifold--it makes it real easy but this time I am thinking about installing the engine with the manifold and turbo pre-mounted as it makes the oil drain connection far easier...anyone done this?? what about with the inlet manifold and carb mounted as well??

I managed to do this at the weekend with my minus, usin mirrage (inlet off) all I had to remove was the starter and alternator, I believe it was Iain that suggested it to me in one of my posts a short while back?
Hope this helps

i install with everything except carbie + manifold goes in ok and thats with remote gearbox, so would be easier with rod change.

once in have carbie manifold and plenum altogether and slot in.

easy8-) (thats my old manifold but similar)

I pulled mine out a few weeks ago with everything still on, turbo, carb alternator etc..

Took a little wiggle but it was easy and I didnt have to break my back taking the turbo off in situ.

Mines a clubman by the way.

OK Cheers guys.

I'll second that! my back can not take the turbo install once the engine is in!!

Seems that leaving the inlet off may make it easier so will go that way, No sweat installing the inlet manifold anyways.

Well, in the end I mounted the lot but once i started dropping the engine in decided to remove the carb but left the inlet manifold mounted. Halfway in it was looking impossible with the angle I had the engine at given that I lift using the front cylinder head bolts which tilts the engine to help with the diff negotiate the subframe.

i fit everything to my engine apart from alternator, in a normal roundnose, and slotted straight in on a bit of a forward angle when lowering in, it was easy.

I wouldnt even consider trying to get the oil drain/feed onto a mirage setup once the engine was in! that would be a nightmare
