Ive done me shimms, thanks to turbo hogsters good advise :)
But i cant get the selector shaft detent spring, ball, sleeve back in.. From the looks of it, it seems i have to select a different gear to turn the gear selector so i can fit them in.
But engine's out, and im stuck *tongue*
Any help would be much appreciated :)
Cheers.

around the selector shaft there is a sleeve which is kept in position by the sleeve that the ball and spring run in.

this needs to be got into the correct position.

with the dif housing off you should be able to see into the box and manipulate it into the right position, you'll see where it should be by looking up the dentent ball hole for the hole in the sleeve.

they can be a right pain

i found making sure the reverse cog is fully across whilst trying to get the selector shaft pin between the teeth on the bell levers

just use a set of strong mole grips on the end of the shaft for grip, it will go back in, its just getting you head around it. just dont force anything, youll risk damaging the bell levers/selector forks.

13's right, you wont get the sleeve/ball in untill the selector pin is where it should be (inside all the bell lever teeth)

I cant seem to move any of the gearings.
How about taking the gear rod off the car and putting it in a gear etc ?

The bell crank levers look to be in line.. (can you confirm)

if so then the selector shaft needs to be turned fully anticlockwise... pushed into place then rotated clockwise to engage in the levers...

right, that last pic shows what the problem is but im struggling finding a way to explain it,

the selector shaft looks to be prrtty much in the right place, but the interlock spool (the thing your trying to push further into the casing) is all to cock

try rotating it around its axis, so the 'bits' on the end sit between the bell lever tips with the selector shaft pip.

its just a matter of sussing it out im afraid

Right ive tried everything, but not much luck.. it's like doing a puzzle, and im shit at puzzles lol. anyone near herne bay kent, near margate that would be able to sort it out for us, for a nice drink :).
Would it help tryin to get it into a different gear ?
If so, how do i change the gear and tell what gear im in....
I was told that if the timing has been moved, that wont help ?
How frustrating :(

nope - needs to be in neutral...

"how do i change the gear and tell what gear im in.... "
by the bellcrank levers - they 'look' from the pic that all is in neutral..
you certainly aint in 1st or 2nd..

stowmaket suffolk

make sure reverse gear is all the way over to right if you are looking at the back, looks to me this hasnt happened, which means outer part of the selector isnt round in to its right postion.

you should be able to turn sector shaft all the way clockwise and engage reverse quiet easiely buy hand,

once you have done this you should be able to rotate selector and engage all bellcrank levers when in neutral.

once you can doe this then the sleeve should go all the way in.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

yep as hoggy says, both parts neet to turn anti clockwise (about 90-120 deg)

the interlock spool (outer bit)should then push forward until flush with the casing and rotate clockwise so the end of it slips in between the 3 gear selector forks, just before you slide this iin you need to manouver the selector shaft into its slot in the inter lock spool.
