The length of the pipe is not as important as the height of the pickup above the oil level. If its no higher then I would not expect any problem.

Thats what I was thinking, but I think its going to have to go accross the centre web and back again to get it low enough in the oil.

Either that or have the pickup in the speedo drive side which is not ideal. *oh well*

Could you pull the oil from the sump plug (out side the box) and then go back in at the back at the litte plate, that the pick up bolts to.

I have started posting on Instagram also my name on there is turbomk1golf

Nothing is impossible it just costs more and takes longer.

That is another option Simon. Another one is to knock the selector spindle out then plug the hole some how?

The only thing with both of them ideas, is working out how to seal it up around the pipe and make it removable? It will probably be a case of having a flange on the outside of the box I guess....hmmm but quite doable! *oh well*

well you could weld a fitting say -10 over the sump plug hole or make a back to back fitting, then just make a hose up like my oil feed.

I reckon that'll do it Simon. I suppose I may aswell chop another hole in the box somewhere and have a lug welded on to the box to thread. Then use some of those fittings and hose.

Yeah that was a typo, meant 5/8 unc. :)

Also if I use a -10 hose, does anyone know what the jic size would be?

I drive down to thinkauto its worth the drive.

I take all the bits with me, then you know it will work when you get home also there is a lad that works there who knows minis.

If you get lots you can strike a deal with him.

Cheers Joe. I might have a rummage through some fittings at work for one to fit the box. Most of the aeroquip adapters seem to be bsp thread, so I'll just tap out a bung. On second thoughts I might just modify the sump plug. *oh well*

Simon - I'll give them a try. I had a look on demon tweeks...£30 a fitting!!! *surprised*

How about a steel -10 Jic fitting, chomp it off in the lathe, and braze it to the sump plug... and for good measure braze a bit of steel tube to the other side so you end up pulling oil from the middle of the box as per with a normal centre oil pickup.

if you enlarged the sump plug hole to the next size up you could probably get a gauze on the end too.

Thats doable. So looks like I need to find a 7/8 JIC fitting, which I think we have at work!

I have some gauze filters at work that are 100mesh 3" about 15mm dia, im hoping I can use these, as they could be changed without too much hassel.

Although, could I do away with the mesh altogether and just run the cartridge filter to be pre pump filter, then ditch the one in the front of the block? Or do they only work under pressure rather than suck through? Would that cause the pump to cavitate?

Ive heard that when minis are converted to a pre pump filter it can take a while to get the pressure up, but it is doable.

I thinks this is about it for the chopping!

Ive got the aluminuim to fill the hole, but thats going to take a hell of alot of cutting and filing to get it to fit.

Another issue is going to be getting the bores inline for the input shaft. The drop gear end should be easy but drilling the centre web is going to be difficult. What are people thoughts on trying to line bore it?

Wow, you made it sound rather doable from the beginning but now it is getting tricky to say the least ...

I'm thinking,

get the plates in and welded (or however you are going to fix them) then work out how far away the other shaft needs to be from the existing 1st &3rd motion shafts centerline, then get the box mounted on the borer and use the holes for the 1st & 3rd motion bearings as a datum and go from there.

Thats what I was thinking Joe. One of the main reason for keeping the 1st/3rd motion bearing locations is to act as a datum point.

It may be possible to bore them out on a horizontal mill, if I use it without the support and take light cuts. I'll probably drill them out to 40mm odd, drill all of the mounting plate holes in the centre web, then line bore it out to the final size.

It looks like im going to have to modify the selector drum too, to relocate the support bearing. Im thinking about moving the whole indexing section of the selector drum to the pinion side of the centre to give a bit more room. *oh well*

How much are you going to charge for one of these then when youve got this one built up? *happy* haha

Looking good mate.

Can you get a higher 5th and 6th gear for this gearset, i know they do loads of different gears for the hayabusa?

have you looked in a remote or majic wand box Matt, the selector rods are longer and extend into the empty section, it would mean using that housing though.
