Im really bored at work today so read all of this:

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic...23&t=399340&i=0

Basically this chaps N/S side impact airbag went off whilst driving on the moterway, The car is a MINI JCW and still under warrenty.

BMW wont fix the problem as they are saying its his fault for kerbing the car. He had proof and reports saying the kerbing a car will not set off the airbag, but they still wont have it. It going to court soon to be sorted out....

IMO its a BMW fault and should be fixed, Theres been alot of talk on there that it has happened before and could force a recall. do you think they are covering up a problem, or just being tight fisted?

I can kind of begin to understand a tiny bit why BM have said hitting the curb was the cause. Those are some serious curb scuffs! Those didn't happen at the time of the air bag deployment but they're going to use that if they're anything like the dealers I've came up against.

Yes that will do it - not a warranty matter under any circumstances. Our special investigations boys often have cases like this with all our products and 99 times out of 100 are impact related. I cannot believe as well the number of fire investigations that turn out to be arson. I mean can you understand someone ringing up and saying my car has just caught fire when all along they torched it!

Thinking about it they would be able to interpret the fault memory of the car and find out exactly at what speed the car was travelling (amongst other things_ when the airbag deployed - so the guy might be being economical with the truth.
