Hi lads

Did a search, but couldn't find what i'm after.

Its a real dumb question :$ but are turbos designed so you can slacken off the retaining clips on the compressor and turbine housings and twist the body until you get the desired configuration?

There are no seals that can be dislodged or broken by doing this are there?

Its just that the turbo i have is leaking past the turbine housing and not turning the turbine!! Subsequently there is no boost!! The retaining clips are fully tight but the turbo can still twist.

I have just won a new turbo on ebay, but the compressor housing and turbine housing are not in the right directions for my turbo set-up. So i need to know whether i can turn the turbo without damaging it?
:)
Cheers
Chris

Yes you can re orient the housings, usually you set the turbinehousing where it needs to be, then rotate the centre housing to get the oil feeds in the right direction, then finally rotate the compressor housing to suit,
You may need to alter the wastegate actuator bracket/fixings.

My T2 has no retaining bolts on the compressor. But still needs a lot of effort to spin it round.

the design shows a distinct lack of imagination,
