well i'm being a nonce & got a spare block crank rods from a fellow member bud666! cheers nick well appreciated chap, helped me a few times for parts, ya better than egay lol *happy* nice chap too, i'll get to your place at the right time eventually *tongue*
it'll be a slow but careful 1293? t3 turbo equiped engine, i have some turbo related parts including a metro t3 turbo & manifold, spare 940 head & a gearbox from my current a+998, a pre-a+ standard flywheel & backplate, clutch housings, an alternator, turbo carb & manifold & maybe a turbo downpipe i have to repair, i have'nt even got a car to put in in but hey, why not........it may go in my dads van or my car, i'll decide when its built!

basicly i'm gonna take my time as i have no spare funds for this build & i'll get parts when i can, i'll just beg, borrow & steal (only if its worth the risk "joke" *tongue*) any donations of bits i need will be greatly accepted (of course) i gotta say, this engine is for me & not to flog on or owt like that!

not sure what spec i'll got with it but at the moment, i'll just clean and assess & measure the parts i do actually have & pop a pic or two up! i'm considering the idea of undercrown oil jets, but i think i'd need help doing that to be honest!!! this project is defo nothing not like the 998turbo build ya'll be glad to know *happy* recommendations & advice always accepted, so to start....my bare block

all i've done is take the core plugs & gallery plugs out also the little things that prevent the main caps shuffling! are they main cap dowls?

i left it overnight in degreaser, jetwashed the block, then i put corks in the gallery plug holes & any oil-way holes but not before filling the oil gallerys with degreaser, 5 hours later i took them out & jetwashed the oil-ways, they are really really clean! :) then i used some "clarke" rust convertor down the oilways & jetwshed it out again, well........i've washed the block around 10 times in all, the clarke rust convertor is basicly a light acid & done a great job!

oh yeah, i knocked the oil gallery plugs out with an old mini bonnet stay, i hit tip to make it closer to the oil gallery plug size, hey presto, 4 light hits & they were out! jobs a gud-un!

1st job on the list is to get the crank sorted where needed! the mains checked for roundness & bearings to match, thats my starting point anyway! i wont update this verry often but it'll be consistant

hope you like chaps

done my threaded gallery plugs today & i have to give a big "thanks" to Benross racing for lending me some taps & sorting me out with a few plugs for the job & some advice to do it! i'm not paying out for this sort of work again, heres some progress, excuse the crappy pics

i'm going to run a countersink bit on the edges of each of the holes to tidy them up, only lightly but i'm dead happy with the result & the threads are far better than what i've paid to be done previously, right back to te vizard book for a read of more stuff i can do at home with minimal tools *happy* cheers

minimadj, i'll try that blasting of the outside of the centre main....???

i could do with more info about it though minmandj??? as i have a compressor big enough & the equipment! is there anything i can do to the conrods & crank at home? i'll be checkin the yellow book

keep ya's posted cheers all

cheerrs steve, yep i got them 1/8" buggers out a treat, as you say some coat hanger wire helped! had to use an 8mm drill bit for the smaller bungs as i did'nt have an 8.5mm jobbie, a but of careful wiggling of the drill bit helped *tongue* it tapped in super smooth!!! cut the cast iron like butter!

joeybabY, i'd like to say i made a mistype but i have to enquire as to which bits to blast *happy* i dont know & not bothered to admit it lol *happy* any info hints and tips be it posted on the thread or by PM is greatly recieved, the block will get filed in various places next & any otther block mods i can find, if it helps relabuilty & strength in the short motor & can be done at home i'm gonna have a good old go at it!built with a budget in the coinage department but not in the care/time/home modding department, yep that does sound a bit cheezy i know haha *tongue*

how do i/or can i measure the bore size top to bottom at home? i dont have matching pistons to this paticular block,
any recommendations for some 1293 or bigger pistons on the cheap let me know!!!!

i cant for the life of me remeber the next bore size after 1293......yellow book time!

Youve got it joey.
Just try and make it as strong as poss.

Not really much you can do with conrods and that. Fairly specialist unless you lighten em and then get em checked out and corrected by some1 with a balancer.

Two options:

1) Beg, steal, or borrow a bore gauge (I better keep a close eye on mine)

2) Take an old piston and measure the width at the widest point (bottom of the skirt purpendicular (or however you spell it) to the grudgen pin) with a mick, then remove the rings and insert the piston upside down into the bore & measure the gap between the piston (at the forementioned widest point) and the cylinder wall using feeler gauages, by moving he piston around and taking measurements at different points you can check to see if the bore is oval or tappered.

EDIT: I forgot to add that the block looks nice.

christ that blocks cleaned up well, it would appear you can polish a turd!

as for pistons on a budget i was running the AE 21253's in that block, and they're now in me new one aswell hence why i didn't have any +20 pistons to go with it, lol.

lol cheers nick, polish a turd lol *happy* thats an ace saying! its come up really well seems nice & clean

i'll get these pistons you've gave me with the rods pressed off without damage i hope!!! & sell them on cause they are in top condition apart from a tiny dent about 0.8mm that a needle file will sort no probs, i'll pop pics up or put them in the for sales once they're off the rods!

i'll check out those pistons nick my man!
i have no funds for this at present unless i sell some bits on egay so i'll try to do it that way*tongue* stick some bits to sell in the car at MITP
