Hey all ... long time since I have been on here ; Hope you are all doing good !

CAn I have some advice ... I have twice listed my tax exempt 1275 on ebay and twice got nowhere with selling it ..

I am just way offline with the price ?

I would have thought with the trim; dash ; 1275 engine and tax exempt it would have to be worth this ?

AM I Mad !!

could it be that it looks like a late mini and not a tax exempt one?

i dont mean to be rude, but everything about that shell is a mk3, tax exempt minis are mk1.

You should state that the car has been reshelled or something....... otherwise people will think its a ringer

Although easily removed maybe some of the bling is putting people off - no offence, just my opinion :)

If I was selling it I would fit standard arches and lose the headlamp peaks and chrome seam finishers. Also I'd remove what I wanted to keep prior to listing and maybe even get that wing tidied up.

not true,

cars constructed before 1st jan 73 are eligible for tax exemtion. the mark 1 ran until 68 but soe were registered later, I have seen a few G reg mk1's. mk2's ran from 67-69 mk3's 69-78?

Yes in 2004 I went in to tax the (then 25 year old) mini rubbing my hands to only discover that they had changed the date of tax exemption to 30 years old. Of course by 2009 my Mini will be a pile of flaky powder or if not they'll change it to 40 years.

You want an opinion - here it is...

A wing like this, and a starting bid of 1400 quid????
*surprised**surprised**surprised**surprised**surprised*

And when you say "The driver wing is rusting and probably could be repaired (or changed) – quite a cheap job" it really makes me think about how genuinely good the rest of the mini is. I mean - for a wing to have 1) got that bad, and 2) been allowed to get that bad, says a lot (IMO) about the likely real condition of the rest of the mini, and it's current owner's attitude to maintenance.

Also, your quote of "It has been pretty neglected of late as I hardly use it these days .." hardly inspires confidence.

In stating this:
"The paint work is VERY flat and will need mopping – this will bring it back to a useable standard)" I personally don't buy it - especially as it has dings and dents. Makes me think that you know enough to say you need to get it mopped, but that you also haven't bothered yourself - I'm wondering if this is because you know it is too far gone.

In short - If you feel it is worth what you're asking, then you either need to look around a little more, or you need to prove to folks that it REALLY is that good - IE at least 20 pictures of the usual areas, showing how sound it is, including:

Scuttle corners (both sides)
Door step
Bottom of doors
Sills (outer)
Sills inner including floorpan.
Front of sill / wheel arch
Rear of sill / subframe mounting
Inside of boot, including subframe mountings
Front panel to wing join lines
Front wings under headlights
etc, etc, etc.

If you can put up pics showing that, you are closer to your 1400 pounds.

However - The fact that you are selling something, but removing bits before letting it go (including the nice front bumper) but leaving them on in the pictures, and the mini realistically needs a new wing and respray.... well - I reckon you're still 400-600 quid too high.

Only my opinion - and you know what folks say about them!

WOW
Thanks for all the replies ...
Dave in particular you !
You have pretty much put me in my place ... THe MINI i never use anymore as I have other cars ; and My lazy aproach to selling it has been partl of my downfall
I think I will tidy it up ; and polish it up ; and get some decent pics together before trying again ;
It is a decent mini and should sell ...
I guess i remember it in the good old days when I first put it together and it was a gleaming new pin !
This is what a divorce and lose of a garage and house does to your minis .. Beware !!!
Anyhow ... thnaks you lot

be careful of ebay, the wifes brother had been 'had' when selliing a mini . clicked the buy it now option, and after seeing the decription which was very fair and factually accurate, with very comprehensive pictures. winning bidder turned up one said dont like it and brought his dad who apparanty was a " mini specialist" who said it was a pile of s**t and drove off then left neg feedback saying he was a timewaster! ebay wernt really interested either

jay you cant have a tax exempt car unless its registered or has a manufactured date pre jan 1st 1973! they changed the law in 1997 to stop people doing that unfortunately

I think it still is older than 30 years in Northern Ireland, but your right, I forgot England had changed it! At least that's how it was over here last time I asked in 2004. I could be completely wrong though.
