i've got my basic timing on my non vernier belt drive setup right, i'm now trying to determine where i'm getting full lift on the pushrod in inlet lobe number 1

i'm using an mg metro cam & not 100% what it should be timed in at, i believe in the area of 106-107.5 degrees is the right area to aim for

what is an acceptable figure from you chaps with more experiance than i?

i am using a kent timing disk & DTI

i have calvers article frm minimag too!
thanks chaps,

big hurdle this bit for me!

cheers chaps

the Search-section on this forum is blummin superb & simple to use, unlike some other forums, without the search-section & the help of this bunch of chaps on here i'll never be able to !!!Start the day with a 998cc turbo!!! :) i'm getting closer though!

To find out where you are getting full lift, set up the DTI on the inlet pushrod.

rotate the engine with the crankshaft bolt, make sure you only turn it clockwise, never turn back...

Bring it round to the highest lift point, and zero the DTI.

Take it 20 thou past; ie back down, and take the reading on your timing disc.

Carry on rotating the engine until you've done nearly a complete cycle and full lift is approaching again, now stop at 20 thou before full lift and take the reading from the timing disc.

Add these two figures together, then divide by 2.

That will give you your full lift position.

As to what the MG cam requires, I have no idea lol.

i've determined i'm getting full valve lift at 109 degrees on number one, i assume i get myself a offset woodruff key now to bring full lift down to 107 degrees,

thing is do i just buy a key, i'm unsure how this bit works, are the keys sided, hope you chaps understand what i mean, thanks all

then you buy a 2 degree offset key and insert it in the cam to withdraw the 2 degrees from what you have now:)

i've never seen on so do they just lean one way or another if ya get my meaning? ie if its put in one way it decreases lift the other way increases or am i thinkin a bit wonky lol *happy*

thankyou ever so much tel, your a star!

i think i have this cam timing nailed, stayed up last night until about 1 in the garage just messing about with tdc & cam lift reading the gauge, realised you can get a more accurate idea of tdc using the small gauge on the dti too, still need an offset key or two if i want to bring it down but i fell confident doing it now! i know i can get it better than factory so thats the main thing, i'm at least going to have it closer to an optimum, thumbs up! :)
