This is a funny one. When I crank the car over to start it the dashpot moves up and down, you can here it going 'dok dok dok'.

The dashpot has thick oil in it and the spring is nice and strong. Anyone had something like this?

An extea point is that the dashpot does not appear to be a turbo one, that is it has no grove around the top for a clip.

I also don't seem to be able to get the mixture rich enough, I have a very thin needle now and still 15:1 is as rich as it gets, I was thinking of trying the T-piece trick, but it appears that the float bowl breather has been snapped off and filled with goo. bugger.

maybe this goo isnt sealing well and letting the pressure out?

What does the piston feel like when you take it off the car.... does it have a nice smooth resistance? It may be that your damping piston is worn ??

Excelent, it was a worn damping piston, never seen that before.

Now to the fuelling, I'm thinking that the Goo is possibly blocking the normal pressure feed to the float bowl. I'll get the carb off tonight and see.
