one of my steering rack gators has split, and loads of runny oil came out. i thought that there was just greese inside, could this be ancient greese that has liquified?

Ive got new gators and am going to change them tomorow, when ive taken off the gator do i fill the inside with greese?

the rubber gromit in the floorpan is hiding a plug in the steering rack, if i take that out do i fill that with oil or greece?

any help greatly appreciated so i dont mess this up!

Some were grease filled, others oil filled.

I normally refil with what ever came out.

I normally use a bit of ep90,

some racks don't have the centralizing hole where you can fill them, in that case i wind the rack all the way one way and then squirt some oil in via a tube in the Track rod to gaiter joint on the side that is all the way in, spinn the straring the other way and do the other side. this stops you putting too much in and poping the gaitor off.
