Protech coil over kit ....

SPAX kit has poor brackets and the shocks will look rubbish quickly

Huddersfield kit is not of a suitable quality for use on my own cars .... read that as you will.

Be prepaired for lots of people to tell you not to go with coil overs but the ability to choose the spring rate and change it easily is a major benefit over any other method for the Mini. Remember that the rubber cones last about 5 or so years before they need replacing.

NOTE: if you regularly use the back seats of your Mini for heavy passengers don't do the coil over conversion ....!!!

I think you need to tell us more about what you want.

You want to raise your suspension? Now is it because someone has lowered it too much or is something buggered?

Well the car will be used for road use and motorways.
so as i dont know much about the Suspension side of things, i thought i'd ask :) i want to be able to rise the car up or down, and too change from softer ride to stiffer ride, just to get the right feel that will make me happy.
the coil part seems abit too much on the £ side :( so i will go for a DAMPERS etc..
so i take it the links i placed are not that good ?
cheers lads :)

The kayaba gas adjusts are meant to be a pretty good all rounder.

They're what I'm running on the BOC which is purely a road car and I'm pretty happy with them, however I definitely won't be running them on my hill climber as that's not what they're designed for.

Firstly ... if your going to keep lifting and dropping the car you will have to keep adjusting the front geometry (and the rear to balance the car in all honesty) .... you can't just lift / drop a Mini an inch without resetting nearly everything!!!

As far as price goes by the time you have added up the following;

4 shocks
4 Hi-Los
shock brackets for lowered cars (if dropping much more than an inch)
4 new cones (trust me they are past their best)

and the price is getting comparable!

Bear in mind that whatever you do you will probably have to go for adjustable tie-bars (most likely bottom arms to) to be able to set the car up at it's new height.

As far as aftermarket shocks for "normal" Mini supsension I'd always say the following

Kayaba's are brilliant road shocks, out of place on a competition car.

Koni's are good on the road but the more fiddly adjustment makes them less suitable for a competition car which might need quick adjustments

Spax's adjustment range goes from too soft to too hard in the first couple of clicks as far as the road is concerned .... can get them near solid which many people do on comp cars ruining the handling in a stroke!!!

GAZ shocks seem to get good reviews from real people but I have never fitted them so can't comment

AVO shocks are ok but wear quickly in my experience.

Protech, light, great range of adjustment, fully rebuildable but never really need to as they are reliable ... a few more 壣s though.

The most important thing to get straight in your mind is the answer to;

"what am I going to use the car for?"

There is no point in building a race car and then complaining it is a pig on the way to the shops and vice versa!!!!

At the end of the day my friend, you pays your money and takes your choice!

Thanks for that rog.
Well the car's going to be for road use and motorway use.
Running at 12 psi
What i mean by highering and lowering, is to get the right hight i like.
so i need,
4 shocks
4 Hi-Los
Negative camber- bottom arms.
adjustable tie rods
what else...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This kit any good with the GAZ shocks.. there on page 14 on the mini world mag..

I'm not going to comment other than to say there are no Mini Sport parts on any of my cars and I doubt that there ever will be.

Add adjustable radius arm brackets to the list and go for adjustable (bushed) lower front arms so you can set the car up.

Well worth buying the longer steering tie rod ends too as the standard ones get a little to close for comfort on lowered cars!

Give Min-Its a call, I'm sure you'll be impressed with the service and welcome their advice!

I take it it's going to be a running a standard gearbox if it's a road car .... if so don't think of a boost figure, think of a torque figure and if you have to run slightly less boost to get it then so be it.

Make sure you get genuine cones, I've not tried the Mini Sport ones, but all of the none genuine cones I have brought in the past have lasted less than a year.
